We’re fortunate here at Bikeworks to have a team of passionate London cycling instructors! Let us introduce you to Fiona:
How long have you been a cycle instructor for Bikeworks?
I joined Bikeworks as a freelance instructor in December 2020.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Apart from discovering new places with my husband on our cycles both in the UK and abroad, I volunteer regularly at Companion Cycling in Bushey Park, SW London and within our local community. I have always played/coached club hockey for over 35 years but stopped last year, spending more time now watching the games rather than participating. However I continue to keep fit by regularly going to the gym and recently took up running – I completed Hackney Half Marathon September 2021. I really enjoy the freedom it gives you like Cycling and hope to also return to my regular weekly Boxing class when it re-starts after the COVID break in Autumn 2022.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Successfully transferring my genuine love for cycling to someone else and seeing the sparkle in their eyes when they ‘get it’. This can vary from teaching them to cycle, building their cycling confidence or taking them out on a RSBS cycle all of which lets them experience the ‘wind on their face’ feeling that is completely priceless. Cycling brings freedom as well as the mental and physical health benefits to achieve whatever goal each individual might set themselves. I often feel happier than my clients at the end of a session and love my job.
Which boroughs do you operate in?
Hounslow and ‘Hammersmith & Fulham’.
