Bikeworks is a not-for-profit social enterprise using cycles as a tool for good.
Across London, our team is out in parks, schools, community spaces, workplaces and events, widening access to cycling through Bikeability, All Ability, specialist cycles, Dr Bike, cycle mechanics, e-mobility, cargo cycle training and team building.
This is practical, people-focused work. Our instructors, mechanics and facilitators teach riders, maintain cycles, guide groups, work with specialist equipment and create more ways for people to experience cycling.
We believe everyone should have access to cycling – for physical activity, wellbeing and connectivity – between people and place.
If you have experience in cycling, cycle instruction, cycle mechanics or group facilitation, and want your work to widen access to cycling, we would like to hear from you.
What we deliver
Bikeworks delivers All Ability cycling through regular clubs, one-off sessions, schools, holiday programmes, community settings and events across London.
Our specialist cycle fleet includes adapted cycles and side-by-side cycles, enabling more people to cycle in a way that works for them.
All Ability delivery is led by qualified Bikeability Instructors. Instructors joining this area of work receive Bikeworks All Ability CPD, covering our specialist cycle fleet, inclusive delivery approach and the Bikeworks Way.
We deliver Bikeability and cycle skills training in primary and secondary schools, including Bikeability Levels 1, 2 and 3, SEND schools and tailored school-based delivery.
We deliver cycle training for individual riders, groups and families, using the National Standard for Cycle Training as the foundation, and Bikeability where the programme applies.
Sessions are shaped around the rider, the journey and the riding environment, from learning to ride and basic cycle control through to road riding, junctions, route planning and everyday journeys.
This includes training for adults, children and families, alongside community sessions commissioned by councils, housing associations, health partners and local organisations.
We deliver practical e-mobility training for individuals, workplaces and partner organisations. This includes e-cycle, e-cargo and e-scooter training, with a focus on handling skills, rules of use, journey planning and real journeys.
Our mechanics deliver Dr Bike sessions, maintenance checks, pop-up cycle clinics, beginner and intermediate maintenance courses, accredited mechanics training and bike building activity.
Our team building activity brings workplaces together through practical cycle-based experiences, including bike building. The cycles are then gifted through community partners, widening access to cycling for people who may not otherwise have access to a bike.
Cycle Connect uses side-by-side e-assist cycles to widen access to active travel for people who may not be able to cycle independently.
Bikeworks Cycle Pilots ride with passengers for local journeys, appointments, fresh air, conversation, community activities and time outside. We also take Cycle Connect to public events, giving people the chance to experience cycling as an accessible active travel option focused on access, equity and participation

Become an All Ability Instructor
All Ability Instructors need to be qualified Bikeability Instructors.
At Bikeworks, All Ability Instructors work with our specialist cycle fleet to widen access to cycling for disabled people, people living with long-term health conditions, older people and families.
On joining, All Ability Instructors receive Bikeworks All Ability CPD, covering our specialist cycle fleet, inclusive delivery approach and the Bikeworks Way.

Become a Cycle Instructor with Bikeworks
Already qualified?
If you are already a qualified Bikeability Instructor, you can apply to join the Bikeworks delivery team.
Bikeworks instructors deliver cycle training for individual riders, groups and families, alongside Bikeability in primary schools, secondary schools, SEND schools and community settings.
With Bikeworks CPD, instructors can move into specialist delivery areas including All Ability, cargo cycle, e-cycle and e-scooter training. CPD covers the cycles, riders, settings and delivery approach needed for each area of work.
Not yet qualified?
Bikeworks is a Bikeability Registered Delivery Centre, approved to deliver the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training.
If you are an experienced cyclist and want to become a qualified Bikeability Instructor, you can train with Bikeworks.
The qualification prepares instructors to deliver cycle training in line with the National Standard for Cycle Training. Once qualified, instructors can apply for Bikeworks delivery roles and progress into specialist areas through Bikeworks CPD.

E-Cycle and E-Scooter Instructors:
Bikeworks delivers e-cycle and e-scooter training for individuals, workplaces, local authorities and partner organisations across London and beyond.
Our instructors work with riders on handling skills, rules of use, rider readiness, journey planning and real journeys.
With Bikeworks CPD, instructors learn how we deliver e-mobility training through the Bikeworks Way, adapting sessions to the rider, the cycle or scooter, the setting and the journey.

Become a Cycle Mechanic with Bikeworks
Already qualified?
Bikeworks delivers cycle maintenance and mechanics work across London and the surrounding areas, including Dr Bike sessions, fleet maintenance, bike builds and cycle maintenance classes.
We are currently looking for qualified mechanics, with particular need in West London.
With Bikeworks CPD, mechanics can build their knowledge of our specialist cycle fleet, including how adapted cycles and side-by-side cycles are checked, adjusted and maintained for All Ability delivery.

Bikeworks delivers cycle mechanics courses in East and West London, including the Level 2 Cycle Mechanics City & Guilds qualification.
The 10-day accredited course gives people the qualification and practical workshop skills needed to move into cycle mechanics work.

Cycle Pilots
Bikeworks Cycle Pilots ride our side-by-side e-assist cycles as part of Cycle Connect.
This role is about people, place and active travel. Cycle Pilots work with passengers to make local journeys, get outdoors, attend appointments, take part in community life and experience cycling in a way that works for them.
Cycle Pilots also represent Bikeworks at public events, where Cycle Connect gives people a practical experience of accessible cycling and shows how active travel can work for more people.
Cycle Pilots receive Bikeworks training, including the operation of our side-by-side e-assist cycles, passenger welcome, route planning, safeguarding, risk assessment and the Bikeworks Way.

Team Building Facilitator
Bikeworks delivers team building activities for companies and workplace groups, using cycles as a tool for good.
Our team building events bring people together through practical bike building. The completed cycles are then gifted through community partners, widening access to cycling for people who may not otherwise have access to a bike.
Events range from smaller groups of around 20 people to large-scale activities for 200 people or more. Bikeworks has delivered events for up to 400 people.
This role suits people who can work well with groups, guide practical activity, communicate clearly with clients and manage the flow of an event from set-up to close-down.
