Employability Courses

This November 2020, Bikeworks relaunched its Employment and Skills programme to residents aged 18 years+, who live in Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney, and Waltham Forest.

Our focus is on supporting people with disabilities, long-term health conditions and mental health support needs, in a friendly and supportive environment.

Our City and Guilds Accredited L1 Employability course takes place over a 2-month period, two days a week. One day is spent learning with our experienced Tutor. The second day is designed to demonstrate the learning through participation at our All Ability Cycling Clubs (in Victoria Park and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park).

Content of the course is designed to increase the confidence and skills required in the workplace, including communication, team-working, health and safety, and more. Mixing practical delivery, verbal questioning, and written work, in a friendly and supportive environment, participants will receive valuable training in how to work with people with complex needs. This is something that will help greatly in a future job but is not often covered by other work experience or training.

Participants will come away with a:

  • Level 1 City and Guilds Employability Qualification
  • Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Work Experience or Volunteering at our Cycling Clubs
  • Free access to the Bikeworks All Ability Cycling Clubs

For participants with learning support needs, we adapt our delivery to your needs.

The Level 1 City and Guilds Employability Qualification will cover:

404 Effective communication

411 Working as part of a team

413 Safe learning in the workplace

424 Introduction to health and safety awareness in the workplace

438 Supporting others

441 Rights and responsibilities in the workplace

460 Introduction to working with vulnerable adults

To apply or refer someone on the programme, please fill in an application form: https://www.bikeworks.org.uk/forms/cycle-into-work.
