Train the Trainer

Level 3 Award in Developing Cycle Training Instructors

This 2-day instructor trainer course has been developed by the Bikeability Trust and 1st4sport, to develop cycle instructors and equip them with the knowledge and skills to deliver the Level 2 Award Course in Instructing Cycle Training.

What does the course cover?

Two days learning with Bikeworks tutors. During the course you will practice and receive feedback teaching classroom and practical sessions. You will learn how to conduct assessments and practice this on peers. Your tutor will guide you in developing your own tailored Continuous Professional Development Plan.

You will receive tutor guidance with pre-course preparation tasks in the lead up to the course. Your tutor will also support you with your e-portfolio tasks during and after the course as you prepare for your Post Course Assessment.

Once you’ve completed your e-portfolio, and delivered 60 hours of the Level 2 Award and 9 hours of assessments, you’ll be ready for your Post Course Assessment, where you are assessed teaching classroom and practical sessions on a Level 2 Course. The PCA will be half a day, followed by feedback from your assessor.

What are the entry requirements?

  • You must have at least three years continuous and current experience at delivering cycle training as an NSIQ or NSIT
  • Mentoring experience is desirable
  • Experience of teaching adults is beneficial
  • You must be at least 18 years of age
  • You must be able to communicate in English
  • You will need access to a computer to complete the online e-portfolio tasks

“The teaching was great but we also had plenty of space for us to express ourselves, question things, debate an issue- despite the tight timescale.” December 2020 participant
