Olympic Legacy
Olympic Dr Bike and employment training contract.
Bikeworks delivered a contract during the summer 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games training local young people to become bike mechanics and then offering work experience during the games.
During the games Bikeworks mechanics fixed over 3000 bikes. All of the trainees are now either in full time work or work experience with Halfords.
Bikeworks All ability Go Ride program secures 3 years of development funding.
After a 1yr pilot program with the London Legacy Development Company (LLDC are responsible for the transforming the Olympic park in legacy) Bikeworks are incredibly pleased to announce a 3 year program.
The Go ride program will see our all ability program go out into the Olympic host boroughs and special needs schools to deliver outreach inclusive cycle sessions. This will then lead to Victoria park and when available Queen Elizabeth Olympic park cycle sessions.
This program is designed to give more people with learning and physical disabilities the opportunity to try out cycling and then sign post them to on-going sessions that Bikeworks deliver. We hope this is the start of something really exciting that we will see all ability cycling having a permanent presence in the Olympic park for a very long time to come.
