Royal Greenwich Cycling skills programmes


On behalf of Royal Greenwich, Bikeworks is able to provides anyone (over seven years of age) that lives, works or studies within Greenwich with up to 4 hours of free cycle skills.
Sessions take place in different locations around the borough, and are tailored to suit everyone’s needs, regardless of age, confidence level, or ability. We have bikes available to borrow free of charge, as well as helmets and high vis vests.

We have broken our training down in Greenwich into four different training streams:


A professional cycling instructor will support you to get riding in a safe environment away from roads and traffic. It can take just 2 hours to go from never having ridden before to having a real sense of confidence on a bike! Bikes and helmets are FREE to borrow if needed. The Rusty Rider course is tailored for those with lower confidence and fitness levels. The course runs at a slower pace and develops the skills and confidence needed to be an effective cyclist on or off road. Bikes and helmets are FREE to borrow if needed. If you’re looking to start commuting by bike then we can get you going! A professional instructor will help you plan a route that suits you, ride it through with you and cover the essentials skills to make you confident cycling on London’s roads. Take the ‘near misses’ out of your commute. Working around your home, place of work or on your daily route you will cover advanced road positioning at complex junctions, hazard perception and driver profiling to make you the best commuter you can be. We have group cycle training sessions happening around Royal Greenwich every week! Sessions are free, fun and especially suited for beginners or riders who need to build up their confidence. Sessions are held as follows:

1st Sunday of every month: Thamesmead group session – Thamesmead leisure centre 11.00-13.00
2nd Saturday of every month: Heritage centre group session – meeting at Waterfront leisure centre – 10.00-12.00
3rd Sunday of every month: Hornfair Park group session – meeting at kids paddling pool next to Charlton lido 10.00-12.00
4th Saturday of every month: Avery Hill Park group session – meeting at cafe (entrance through Reinckendorff Avenue) 10.00-12.00
