In this borough sponsored ‘Recycle the way you travel’ programme, we are able to offer participants the chance to attend a FREE one-day bike maintenance course and a cycle training session (Provided by Cycle Confident).
At Bikeworks we are all about developing cycling in London (and beyond) so in this scheme, our aim is to get participants who already own a bike confident on the road and independent with their mode of transport by acquiring essential maintenance skills.
Participants will have six hours of bike maintenance training, going through the basics of bike maintenance and repair. This includes:
– Roadside puncture repair – removal of wheel and tyre
– M-check (learning how to check that major components are safe and roadworthy, making minor adjustments
– Removal and refitting of brake blocks, balancing brake callipers
– Principles of basic gear adjustment
– Checking chain tension
– Preventative care, e.g. how to clean and lubricate parts of the bike
At a later date, participants will also benefit from a two-hour group cycling session led by Cycle Confident instructors.
To be eligible, you also need to either work, live, or study in the borough of Haringey. (6 places) Details are below.

This is aimed at people who do not already own a bike, and who are able to demonstrate that attending this course and getting a bike would improve their life and be of significant benefit to them. Priority will be given to participants who, due to social, economic, or health reasons are unable to acquire a bicycle by their own means. To be eligible, you also need to either work, live, or study in the borough of Haringey.
